Judges spent countless hours pouring over the applications, which were received from every state in the region, to find the semifinalists for this year's competition. A new judging rubric was introduced to increase the Cleantech Open's ability to judge each entry fairly and consistently.

The worldwide transportation of goods within the global supply chain has a carbon footprint of around 2,800 mega- tonnes CO2e (see PDF).

Weight is a major factor in transportation fuel consumption and green house gas (GHG) emissions. Less weight means the potential for lower fuel consumption and lower GHG emissions.

A ubiquitous component of the global supply chain is the pallet. Annually, 500 million new pallets are manufactured. They become part of the roughly 2 billion pallets that are in circulation in the U.S. at any given time. 93% of all goods move on a pallet.

DENVER (AP) — Health officials have issued a warning for cantaloupes from a revered melon-producing area of the U.S. state of Colorado amid a bacteria outbreak blamed for four deaths in the state and New Mexico, troubling farmers who depend on sales of the fruit.

The warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention came after numerous cases of a strain of Listeria were reported in six states, including at least 11 from Colorado, 10 from New Mexico, two from Texas, and one each from Indiana, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
